So I did this video in under 20 minutes.  I only used 2 tools and the place command.  Very simple but I believe a great look.
This is my first time in illustrator and as a result this magazine cover is done with few tools and should be able for anyone to adapt and do very easily.

I get all my fonts from www.dafonts.com.  It is a great place to get some fonts and you can enter words in the search box.  For example I entered speed to get the font I used for the heading, Savage Flux.

I used the yellow borders again as the trim for the title for repetition. Contrast was covered by the R/C that is black verses the white Monste in the title.  I tried to keep proximity so you were able to read without getting confused as to what content went with what.
